A Good Product
"The first set of oil pastels I bought was from Pentel and cost me around 8 dollars. The quality was good, especially considering the price. Some colors didn't stick to the paper well, but you can't really expect perfection from an 8-dollar set. As someone who was only starting to paint, that was a good deal. As my interest in oil pastels grew, I decided to invest in higher quality products. Imagine my disappointment when I purchased an 87-dollar oil pastels set from Winsor & Newton, believing it would offer superior quality, only to find out it's basically the same thing. Some colors stick beautifully to the paper with excellent coverage and opacity, but others peel off easily, have poor adhesion, or result in weak color. Exactly the expected for a 8-dollar set, except I paid 87. The inconsistency is frustrating. I tested the sticks on paper, I mean how else would I know the quality if I didn't try them? And because of that, the store won't accept a return, leaving me stuck with the product that doesn't meet the expectations, and frustrates me every time I look at it. On top of that, it's only a 30-stick set compared to the 48 sticks in the Pentel's, making the value proposition even worse. The Winsor & Newton set is good. And only that. Doesn’t justify the investment. Attached is a picture of the tests. And for a fair comparison, I only used the equivalent colors from Pentel."
