Jackie Liu, winner of the ‘26 International Art Prize

New York winner Jackie Liu is a disabled and autistic Chinese American artist whose intimately detailed oil-over-acrylic portraits of her chosen family capture fleeting, blissful moments. She describes her work as confronting trauma with irreverence. Jackie was selected by judge Sergio Pardo López, Director of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.

About the prize

The International Art Prize is free to enter open call for drawing and painting running simultaneously across London, New York and Paris, founded by Winsor & Newton and Paul Smith’s Foundation. Three winning artists are chosen by a notable local industry representative. This year’s theme is: ‘Making an Impression’.

About the process

‘Brunch of Good Fortune’ was painted using Winsor & Newton Artist Oil Colours and Galeria Acrylic on wood. Jackie selected a curated palette of colours including Transparent Orange, Winsor Orange, Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Red Deep, Cadmium Yellow Pale, Cadmium Yellow Deep, Cadmium-Free Green, Olive Green, Mineral Green, Permanent Alizarin Crimson, Permanent Rose and Naples Yellow.

She adds “Tina – second-generation acupuncturist, herbal healer, supreme cultivator of care and community – unites our hungry spirits and stomachs to usher in the swiftly galloping Year of the Fire Horse. (Soba the therapy dog also joins the festivities.) Replete with delicacies from takeout Korean fried chicken to homemade matcha mochi waffles, the glorious potluck feast presents a mouthwatering manifestation of how small individual offerings can coalesce into grand collective abundance.”
