The Artist
Iva Vanacova
Hi! I’m Iva and I’m a fashion illustrator. I’m a self taught artist. My love for art started in my early childhood drawing anything from my grandmother’s cups to vintage cars. A few years ago I found a way to combine my love for fashion and art and started making fashion illustrations.
Step 1
SKIN TONES: Once you have sketched your outline you can start working on the skin tones. Here we are using two shades - Blush is perfect for light skin tones and Cinnamon Promarker is excellent for darker ones. Apply first coat of colour and then continue going over it by using the same shade to build up some definition.
Step 2
BASE COLOUR: Using your marker of choice start applying your base colour (I am using Satin for figures No. 1 and 3 and Praline & Cinnamon for figures No. 2 and 4. My tip is to always apply a couple of layers for a nice smooth finish.
Step 3
CONTRAST: You can create great contrast and depth just by using two or three shades of Promarkers. Once you have your base ready you can go in with darker shades.
Step 4
BLENDER: I like to use my blender when I want to achieve a nice transition from darker to lighter shade.
Step 5
COLOUR PENCILS: Now we are ready to bring some colour into the illustration. The colour pencils offer wide variety of colours to choose from and are great to mix & match your favorite shades. I used Orange, Red, Plum, Lush Green, True Blue, Azure, Burnt Sienna, Black.
Step 6
FINELINER: The final step is to bring out the lines with a fineliner. I used size 0.5. I never skip this step because it really brings everything together.
