What does a Fine Art student have in their kit?

A fresh start, a new project, a new academic year. We chatted to Fine Art student Joy Gogo about her go-to essentials and how she prepares to get creative.

What are you studying?
Fine Art: Painting at University of the Arts London

What are your memories of using Winsor & Newton materials?
Using the Promarkers in my drawings on my foundation course!

What are your go-to essentials for your course or practice and why?
Gesso primer is an essential base for my oil paintings. I’ve recently been using Winsor & Newton Iridescent Medium under my paintings to create a smooth, satin finish!

What materials have you enjoyed working with today and why?
I loved using the Promarker Watercolour and Watercolour Pencils – it allowed me more control in my application and the ability to add smaller details. I’m happy I got to try the Winton Mixable Oil Paint – it’s easy to use and has a buildable texture!

What is your advice for anyone starting a new course, project, or practice?
Get familiar with the resources you have available to you – especially at uni! Take time to build your unique artistic vision.

The items we carry daily reveal a lot about our personality. Get to know Joy better as we explore the essential art materials and personal items she keeps in her bag.
